Responsibilities

The Department's Property/Evidence Unit is responsible for the collection, cataloging and security of all property that comes into the police department's possession as evidence, safekeeping or found property.

Careful safeguards are taken to ensure all property taken into the department's possession is processed in accordance with state laws, city ordinances and departmental policies and procedures.

Safekeeping Items

Safekeeping property may be claimed by appointment only! Appointments will be made Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Call 559-876-6364 to make an appointment. You will need to provide identification when you come to pick up property. 

Unclaimed property booked for safekeeping will be held in accordance with law for a minimum of 60 days before being destroyed.

Found Items 

All Found property is held for 90 days in accordance with law and may be claimed during property unit's hours of operation.

Property Seized as Evidence

If items are booked as evidence, the case must be adjudicated and/or you will require a court order for release. Property seized as evidence may be released on a case by case basis in accordance with law as well as department policies and procedures.

Firearms

Firearms taken for Safekeeping require Department of Justice clearance prior to release. Contact the Property/Evidence unit for further information.

Granting Permission for Property Retrieval

If you are not able to retrieve your property in person, you may give written permission for your property to be picked up by a person of your choice (parent, spouse, friend etc.).

Making an Appointment

Appointments for property release can be made by calling the Property/Evidence Unit at 559-876-6364 or 559-875-8522, or by filling out the Property Release Appointment Request Form. All property released by appointment only!
